In this series, physical skills are developed always with the purpose of producing immediately a musical result (tone), and a sensation or feeling associated with the sounds produced (touch). Exercises are provided for specific muscular co-ordinations and controls, but they are practised for the immediate application in a musical context in Studies which follow.
The “Young Pianist” book was originally conceived for pupils of about 14 years of age. Some teachers have used it with much younger students, and some in the early years of tertiary training.
